Tribute to my uncle

My dear uncle Antony died in Athens yesterday and we are heading there for the funeral. May he rest in peace. He lived a long full life and I am glad my mum had the chance to meet him ten days ago and be with him and chant Christian psalms with him for the last time.We had the chance to meet him in summer for the last time too.

My uncle like all our family was from this beautiful city, Constantinople.
As a tribute to him and all our family some photos from our trip there back in 2011.

Happy Valentine's Day

I don't usually celebrate this but others do....heavily! I am not jealous! I feel love should be expressed and shared every moment of our lives and I feel happy and full!
But I was wondering why all the fuss when I saw my son with all his gifts for his girlfriend.Isn't love, youth and beauty a gift enough?
Here is a Valentine's cross stitch card I received as an exchange with McKenna at ChickCrafting.
Unfortunately MacKenna has not received mine yet so I can't reveal it. Thanks McKenna for this excahnge.It motivated me to start cross stitching again for 2013!

Bits and pieces.

I am so much behind with everything all the time. I am sure you are tired of hearing this.
So here I will just add random photos of things and events of ....November 2012. Yes they were taken back then but I forgot about them.
So in November....
I collected these from the sidewalk, thrown out from an old school.What am I going to do with them? Maybe something I saw in Jeanne Oliver's Creatively Made Home online course.
I won't use the photo from the course as I am not supposed to. But when and if I make this into something beautiful you will see it again.

Inspired by Alisa Burke's Create Daily Holiday Edition online course I painted  some owls on sea glass and sea tiles.

 And I made a painting and collage which I gave as a little gift.

And some painted stones I custom ordered to a friend colleague of mine for my friends around the world. Aren't they gorgeous?I wish I could paint like this.

Finally something I found in the street again after a demonstration. Some poor little kid must have lost it. But it's a keeper!

It's February already.

And look what happened in just a couple of days.

We went with the school on foot and watched Peter Pan at the National Theatre. The kids loved it!

We had the cutting of the New Year's Pie with the Drama Club.

They even had a birthday cake for me and another member who had her birthday in January,too.

We went shopping for colourful glass for my next jewelry lesson.(I will devote a blogpost on that).

I only bought tiny pieces of course but the huge ones were lovely!
We went to my Godson's 12th birthday party.

 And he also played Shadow Puppet theatre for us.

We had a meeting with hubby's class of pupils after 25 years!See yesterday's post about this, too.

 I cooked chinese!

And of course played so much with Barca!

It was a full weekend and a very happy one, although very very tiring!

Racial discrimination and inspiration in teaching

Today I watched an hour's documentary film about Jane Elliott, a teacher who did an experiment with her pupils in the 60's to teach racial discrimination and how we should avoid it.Separating her pupils in blue eyed ones and brown eyed ones she taught them to step into other people's shoes and to avoid doing to others what we don't want to be done to us.It was inspirational.

Here is a picture I was also sent on my e-mail about education. I guess it applies to most countries' educational systems.

Talking about discrimination I would like to remind you of the Disabled Access Friendly Campaign. You can see the button on the right. You can find lots of teaching material on that theme there.

If you feel watching a good inspirational short movie about how people are made to feel subordinate and how every one has a value even if they are called Zero this one is for you!

I was trigerred to write this blogpost from yesterday's meeting of my husband who is now a pensioner teacher with a class he taughet 25 years ago. It was a touching, happy meeting.
