Rain, sunshine, snow!

Or how the weather in Greece has become "British"
Yesterday started with heavy rain. When it stopped the sun came out so we decided to walk at the sea front.
It was beautiful!

Of course we had to stop at our beloved Zongolopoulos umbrellas!

 Seagulls were having fun!
I took postcard photos of our landmark the White Tower.
And of the Statue of Alexander the Great!
There were hundreds of people walking.
This guy was singing beautifully. He was from Ireland I think.
His umbrella shone in the sun light!
It was fun taking photos contre lumiere!

While returning to the umbrellas I spotted someone putting something in front of them.
He was a local artist selling souvenirs that depict the umbrellas.
 I had to take photos.

And I also bought the colourful ones on the top picture. They had to be colourful!

In the evening during and after our performance it started snowing.
And this Sunday morning we woke up to this. Ok it isn't much. But it is our first snow this year! And it is very very cold!

Barca had to try the white cold snow! And she seemed to like it!

Visitors 1- The White Tower

My Godmother and her son, my cousin, and his family were visiting here the weekend 25th-26th June. They came for a wedding where we went together.
They brought us this delicious profiterole from Athens.
We spent Friday evening all together along with my brother's family at my place.
Then on Saturday morning we went for a walk. We passed in front of the Scouts' Headquarters.

I adore this lacy woodwork all around the roof.
We loved the flowers in front of the Municipality Hall.

 The lavender was awesome.
 Isn't this alleyway wonderful?
I am always taking the pics so I am not in them! Aren't they strange all together with their dark sunglasses?
The Indignant have posted this huge label on the White Tower that says "Not for sale!"
Inside it is a beautiful museum of the story of the city and we went to see it.
Digital photo of the city.
A dove had made its nest in one of the Tower's windows.
The views from the windows are wonderful.
We loved seeing old pictures of the city.
 Someone was really bored!!!!!!!
This city has seen so many conquerors.
There is pottery found in the Tower.
The view from the top is breathtaking.
There are beautiful parks around the Tower.
The Indignant are still in tents all around the Tower.

A day with Frieda.

As yesterday Frieda was busy attending the TEDx conference we had arranged to meet today. So we met in the morning and since it was a glorious sunny day we walked at the sea front. Here we are in front of Alexander the Great statue.

We decided (well I decided and she was kind to follow) to go and visit the Glass World exhibition at the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum which I had seen some months ago but loved seeing once again. Some of the old glass vessels found inside ancient Greek tombs in Macedonia and Thrace were amazingly well preserved and restored.(I will make another blog post with photos from the exhibition as there are many.)

Andrei Filippov's huge "Saw".It is coming from the underworld. It is outside the museum opposite the Communication Tower(or O.T.E. Tower).

We then had some coffee opposite the White Tower and then lunch at Olga, the neighbourhood restaurant where we frequent as it has good homemade food.
Two happy colourful girls outside the White Tower.
Shall we buy some wire sculpture art?

Then in the afternoon Frieda came at my home and we enjoyed chatting, had some coffee and she showed me my first steps to crochet! I admit I found it difficult!Maybe I should stick to my cross stitch!
Of course Frieda was very kind to bring me some gifts.A pair of lovely tiny porcelain clogs(Dutch shoes).Frieda is Dutch and has been living in Greece for many years now.She was recently in her hometown in the Netherlands. The sea glass is from her beach on Skiathos island. She also made me a tote bag for my shopping!
