My trip to the Peloponnese (3)- Mycenae

You can read the previous chapters of this travel log here and here.
So the next morning Sunday 29th we started really very early.
The day was cold but sunny and that was really a plus for all the things we wanted to do and especially because we wanted to visit open spaces.First I took photos from our balcony.

We started with a good breakfast and I took some fruit and snacks with us.
This was the breakfast placemat showing Bourtzi fortress. I took mine with me when leaving. I collected four. Back in the city I passed them through the laminator and now I have four beautful placemats that remind me of an exceptional holiday.

The breakfast room kept its original 70's frames and I loved that.
Even the view from our table was so so beautiful.
Then we had to take some more morning sunny photos of Bourtzi fortress from our balcony again.

And then we headed for our first stop Mycenae.
That's a very very old settlement that was in its highlight in the 2nd millenium BC.
It was great that we started early so almost no one was there.
And I could stand underneath this amazing Lion Gate. The monolith over me weighs 18 tons.

 See how small I am?
And always reading my guide book!
We walked and walked and went up and up on the acropolis of the settlement.

 The view was breathtaking.

I loved noticing details in nature around me too.
Do you know this flower?I thought it looked like an orchid.
We then visited the Archaeological Museum of Mycenae inside the site.

There is a tomb next to it and I look absolutely small in it while hubby is taking pictures.

The museum is fantastic!
I took so many pictures I thought of giving you some collages of them so that I don't tire you!
And these are hubby's collages!

I especially loved those idols and also the semi precious stones jewelry.

My favourite amphorae were these two with the octopus and the hearts.

Of course the golden finds of Schliemann but the originals are in the Athens Archaeological Museum.

The museum had a great design with big windows overlooking the hills.
We then visited the tombs of Clytemnestra and the Treasury of Atreus.

They are impressive in and out. Even those with no tholos(dome) on top.
I had to take some photos with my beaded felted stones in front of all the sites we visited!

Some are hubby's photos of course with his new camera. Much better than mine!
After Mycenae we went to Ligourio and Epidavros and afterwards back to Nafplio we visited Palamidi. But those will follow in future posts.

Oh wow, I watched a documentary years ago that talked about Mycenae and the interesting architectural features they included in their buildings. It's so cool that you got a chance to visit it!

Great pictures! I have been so many times in Nafplio but never succeeded to go to Mycenae... I have to plan it!
And about the flower Dimitra said, we have it also in Crete and we call it something like wild lilium (I do not know why...)

Lovely photos as usual. I like that frame with the boats at the hotel.

It really looks like a fabulous trip! And something else I noticed, so funny, you look a bit like my Spanish friend (woman!) Amparo and my cousin Juliette, (and a little bit me) combined! xx
