My trip to the Peloponnese (5)- Epidaurus

After visiting the museum at Ligourio we continued to Epidaurus. It was midday.
Epidaurus is famous for its ancient theatre which is still in use today.
I had to take my felted stone there too.

And hubby took a couple of photos with his shadow puppet and we were scolded by the guard of the sight.Oooops!

The acoustics of the theatre are maginificent.

There is a very small museum there.

Isn't that marble sculpture amazing in its detail?

Everything outside was green and lush...
 ...and bathed in the sunshine....
This was a healing centre, Asclepieion as it is called, dedicated to Asclepeios God,the healer, son of Apollo.
 There is also a stadium.

Renovations and construction work is being done to save the antiquities.
On the way back to Nafplio we spotted this prehistoric bridge.
Of course I had to walk on it!

Thank you so much for those pictures! During my very short trip to Greece when I was young, I visited Epidaurus and have the best memory of how impressive it was!

Ariadne,

Your photos of your excursion to Epidaurus are spectacular! How impressive it all is, the history, the architecture, the spirit of all the performances from ancient times to the present! Every time I see pics of this most monumental of structures, I get goose bumps and smile at its perfection.

Beautiful landscape around and beyond this artistic masterpiece!

This is exactly what I love about Greece, the ancient beauties you still find there today. So impressive! I loved what I had the chance of visiting myself and hope to be able to visit more. Your beautiful photos take me back to fond memories of Greece.
But why on earth did that man got angry with you? What's wrong with photographing a puppet there????? Strange fellow.
Big hugs and thank you for joining us at OBW :-) xxx
